Overview of the functions of the post
Description of Responsibilities:
Under the overall authority of the Office Director and direct supervision of the Science Programme Specialist, the incumbent will assist in the design, development and implementation of the Office's activities in the field of Science within the framework of the Office mandate. This will include more specifically:
1.East Asia Biosphere Reserves Network (EABRN): the incumbent will assist the Programme Specialist in managing the necessary contacts with the MAB National Committees and the Biosphere Reserves of the network, who will participate in the EABRN meetings and in the following-up training activities.
2.MAB Youth related activities: the incumbent will assist the Science Programme Specialist in developing follow-up activities to the 2022 MAB Youth Forum, and engaging with MAB Youth communities in surveying their response to COVID-19 and preparing their involvement in CBD-COP15.
3.The 2022 Great River Forum: the incumbent will assist the Science Programme Specialist in the organization of the event by establishing the necessary contacts with participants of the conference and the sharing of logistic information.
4.CBD COP15: the incumbent will assist the developing activities of UNESCO which will take the opportunities of CBD COP15 to promote MAB and its sites, UGGp and World Heritages.
5.STI related activities: the incumbent will assist the Science Programme Specialist in developing follow-up activities on open science and STI policy in cluster countries.
6.More in general, the incumbent will assist the Science Unit in the drafting of correspondence, preparation of presentations, speeches, web releases and other outreach and communication materials.
7.The incumbent will contribute to research and activities, as requested by the Director and/or the Programme Specialist, including collection and systematization of gender- disaggregated results data, and execute any other task that may be required.
Required qualifications
EDUCATION
·University degree, secondary, technical and/or vocational training closely related to natural sciences mandate of UNESCO.
WORK EXPERIENCE
·A minimum of 2 years of relevant job experience.
·Experience in the area of project management, coordination and implementation.
